Operators need to understand more than which buttons to push. They need to understand why the system is responding the way it is.
Systems-level training helps operators see how their actions can affect performance elsewhere in the packaging line. A shared understanding of the complete packaging line also helps operations and maintenance teams communicate more effectively when diagnosing and resolving issues.
Effective training transfers more than operating instructions. It gives operators and maintenance teams the knowledge and confidence to troubleshoot the complete packaging line and take greater ownership of its performance.
Training the Complete Packaging Line
A packaging line can be engineered, installed, and running as intended at startup. But what happens after the engineers, technicians, and OEM experts leave?
IPM saw the problem firsthand. Production efficiencies would decline after installation experts left the facility. EQUIPS was developed to prepare operators and maintenance teams to sustain packaging line performance once the installation and startup teams are no longer on site.
EQUIPS builds on the machine-specific expertise provided by individual OEMs by connecting those machine centers within the context of the complete packaging line. Training focuses not only on what operators should do, but why the system responds the way it does and how actions at one machine center can affect equipment upstream and downstream.
The EQUIPS team applies adult-learning principles through interactive, facilitated instruction that connects technical information to how operators and maintenance teams work with the packaging line every day.
Every EQUIPS program is customized to the customer’s operation, including the specific equipment, plant standards, safety requirements, and branding.
Classroom instruction provides a lower-pressure environment for learning how the system is intended to operate before operators and maintenance teams apply that knowledge through hands-on training on the production floor. Classroom and hands-on training give operators and maintenance teams both the foundation and practical experience to operate and troubleshoot the complete packaging line.

One Coordinated Approach
Operator training is most effective when it is integrated into the packaging line project rather than treated as a separate activity at the end.
EQUIPS involvement begins before formal training takes place. The team coordinates with project engineering and OEM partners as the packaging line moves through testing and startup, helping ensure the training reflects the equipment, processes, and operating requirements of the completed system. Training also supports the transition from the engineering, installation, and startup teams to the operators and maintenance teams who will manage the line every day.
IPM’s Train-the-Trainer approach extends the value of EQUIPS beyond the initial training. Selected plant personnel are prepared to train others, and the customer retains the customized training resources for continued use as new operators and maintenance personnel join the team.
Our goal is for operators and maintenance staff to take total ownership of their system. Working closely with OEM partners, we develop a cohesive training program tailored to the specific packaging line. We combine a proven Train-the-Trainer model with hands-on instruction, supported by online learning, to ensure teams perform at the high level necessary to drive maximum OEE across the entire line.

At IPM, engineering, integration, and operator training are all part of one coordinated strategy focused on long-term packaging line performance and uptime. Manufacturers gain more than a successful startup. They gain the knowledge, confidence, and operational ownership needed to sustain packaging line performance and maximize uptime.
